The National House project have secured £10,000 from the Pixel Fund towards the development of our Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing programme for care leavers.
Leaving care and moving into adulthood can be an exciting but challenging time. Young people often have to manage housing, education, employment, relationships and health at the same time, and many do this without the support networks that their peers can rely on. Through our House Project approach, young people build the skills, confidence and relationships they need to make a home and shape their future. Through our peer evaluation they told us that they wanted more mental health and emotional wellbeing support that is easier to access and available at the right time.
The Pixel Fund’s grant helps us to respond directly to that need. We will work with care-experienced young people to co-produce a practical wellbeing framework of support for Local House Projects (as part of our House Project Programme), train staff in Youth Mental Health First Aid, and develop new learning materials to help young people prepare for living interdependently and managing their emotional health.
The funding will contribute to a programme reaching around 260 young people, while also building knowledge and confidence across our network so that support can be sustained in future years.
