West Sussex Mind is an independent local charity. We support people (aged 8 +) with their mental health, provide specialist training and campaign to improve services and promote understanding.
The pandemic has left a devastating mark on young people (aged 16-25) with an increased risk of self-harm and suicide. Like the Pixel Fund West Sussex Mind have a passion for helping young people struggling with their mental health. At West Sussex Mind we already support hundreds of young people aged 16-25 across West Sussex with their mental health by offering one-to-one and group support/ activities, in person, online or by phone. But we need to do more.
This funding will help us to recruit a full time Youth Mental Health Services Peer Support Worker (someone with lived experience of mental health). This will enable us to Increase on-line social and activity groups providing opportunities for social interaction, skills development, and peer support.
Having this additional support would enable our existing youth mental health workers to focus more on advice, information, and sign-posting and individual goal focused support. Ultimately enabling us to meet the increase in demand for our services.
“I was terrified it’s a difficult thing facing your fears - The minute they opened the door I just felt so welcome, I felt understood” Marv, Youth Support Service User
