The Listening Place

The Listening Place is proud to be continually supported by The Pixel Fund. The grant from The Pixel Fund will be used to directly cover the cost of appointments for young people aged 18 to 26 who access our face-to-face and ongoing support for their suicidal feelings. While our service is open to all adults, young adults form a significant and consistent proportion of those we support. Around 25% of all visitors who access TLP are aged 18–26, meaning close to one in four people we see fall squarely within The Pixel Fund’s defined age range for young adults. This reflects the acute vulnerability of this group and the clear need for timely, accessible support during this stage of life.

The need for our support is clear amidst rising suicide and suicidal ideation rates among the 18-26 age group. Detailed analysis of Office for National Statistics data shows that suicide rates among children and young people aged 15 to 25 in England increased by over 50% in the decade to 2021–22. While not limited to 18–26, this trend highlights significant need for better support for young adults experiencing suicidal feelings.

Our work is entirely core-focused on supporting people experiencing suicidal feelings. Visitors come to TLP because they are struggling with persistent suicidal thoughts, often alongside complex mental health conditions, social isolation, or major life transitions such as leaving education, entering work, or navigating housing and financial insecurity. Many young adults tell us that TLP is the first place they have been able to speak openly about how they feel, without judgement or pressure, at a point when they are at real risk.

Support at TLP is delivered through one-to-one listening appointments with trained volunteers, enabling visitors to talk through their feelings at their own pace. Crucially, we operate without a waiting list, making sure people who need our support receive it urgently and without having to wait. This model is particularly effective for young adults, who often report feeling dismissed or unable to access overstretched statutory services. By offering consistent, ongoing support, TLP helps young people feel heard, stabilise during periods of crisis, and build the resilience needed to stay safe.

By supporting our work, The Pixel Fund directly strengthens the support available to young people in London who are experiencing suicidal feelings. With the recent opening of our fourth site in the capital, we’ve expanded our capacity and remain committed to reaching even more young people who need our help.
