Winchester Youth Counselling

WYC improves the mental health and wellbeing of 11-25 year-olds with free, longer-term counselling, local wellbeing services and unique outdoor therapies. We offer 1:1 Counselling as well as Walk and Talk Counselling, Nature Therapy, Drop-in services, Parent support and professional training. We also run a Ukrainian refugee support group, two weekly drop-in services and a monthly Neurodiversity support group for parents. We also offer 1:1 parent support and monthly parent support workshops.

Winchester Youth Counselling (WYC) have received a £7.500 grant from the Pixel Fund towards our core costs, which will ensure we are better able to cover essential outgoings including funding our accessible counselling rooms, utilities, communications and secure data storage. Providing a safe, confidential space to do the majority of our work, is crucial to achieving positive long-term outcomes in our clinical practice. We are finding it increasingly difficult to secure grant funding and this support is more valuable than ever.

We are increasing our available 1:1 counselling by 10% each year, and within this have set a target for a minimum of 80% of clients to show an improvement in mental wellbeing through their CORE-10 wellbeing score, with 50% of these being a ‘clinically reliable’ score. This is true for both our indoor counselling and our Walk and Talk projects. We also hope to achieve 50% clinically reliable sWEMWBS scores and 80% positive self-reflection for our Nature Therapy Groups, and 90% positive feedback from our drop-in services. Through meeting these aims, we hope to demonstrate a significant longer-term improvement in the mental health and wellbeing of the young people we support, to ensure they are able to thrive and fulfil their potential.
