STAA's Young Roots project based on St Ann's Community Orchard, in inner city Nottingham provides local young people (11-14) with engaging outdoor learning and fun activities every week after school. Young people value access to a safe green space in an area associated with high levels of knife crime and anti-social behaviour.
These after school sessions, develop an understanding of nature and the natural environment, use of tools, team work, food growing and healthy food. We use our outdoor kitchen, pizza oven and open fire to engage young people in preparing simple meals and snacks using produce grown on site wherever possible.
