Safety Net is a Cumbria-based charity supporting children, young people, and adults affected by rape, sexual abuse, domestic abuse, and exploitation. With the help of The Pixel Fund, we will deliver trauma-informed therapy to children and young people who have experienced domestic or sexual abuse.
The impact of such abuse can be devastating – many of the young people we see are living with anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, and feelings of isolation. Some struggle to attend school or form relationships, and many engage in risky behaviours, including self-harm. This not only affects them, but also has a ripple effect on their families, education, and future opportunities.
The Pixel Fund’s grant will help us provide specialist therapy and counselling, delivered by qualified therapists. Sessions will take place in a safe, non-judgemental space where children and young people can process their experiences, understand their emotions, and learn coping strategies. We will also offer creative and alternative therapies such as art and sand therapy, to engage young people in ways that feel right for them.
Over the next year, this project will directly benefit around 45–50 children and young people, as well as 50–100 family members. We aim to see significant improvements in mental health, emotional wellbeing, relationships, and school life, giving young people the tools and confidence to build safer, healthier futures.
Thank you to The Pixel Fund for helping us reach those who need us most. Together, we are making it possible for children and young people to move forward from trauma and start to believe in themselves again.
