The Green Team

At the Green Team we are passionate about young people thriving through nature – caring for the environment, others and self. We have been successfully running outdoor programmes in Edinburgh, since 1995.

Thrive is the Green Team’s mental health and wellbeing programme. The programme runs projects throughout the year. Each project provides the opportunity for young people (aged 14-18) to take important steps to overcoming their challenges and fulfilling their potential.

Project activities include:

·      conservation tasks eg tree-planting

·      nature connection eg wildlife tracking

·      wilderness survival skills eg carving tools

·      natural arts/crafts and games

Activities are adapted to present challenge at levels appropriate to individuals. A small group size and volunteer support provides a high adult-child ratio to ensure a safe and supported experience.

During sessions young people can enjoy respite (eg relaxing in hammocks) and will use fire-lighting skills to start a fire around which review activities take place  - a safe space to open up and to re-enforce achievements.

The programme enhances wellbeing, builds confidence, reduces isolation, develops social skills (such as teamwork and communication) and increases understanding, appreciation and care of the natural environment.

Thrive was the winner of the 2022 Nature of Scotland, Health and Wellbeing Award, and it’s impact is well recognised by partners:

“Thank you so much for working in collaboration with CAMHS to provide groups for young people. The benefit that we have seen for young people has been outstanding”
