SELFA supports children and families who are experiencing vulnerabilities to build resilience, thrive and achieve, with an overall aim of improving mental wellbeing.
Reasons for referral to the Charity are varied and complex. Many of the children and young people have autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, attachment disorder, mental and physical health issues. They may come from low-income homes, be exposed to domestic violence and/or substance abuse or help to care for parents or siblings. Social isolation, low self-esteem and confidence and emotional/behavioural issues are common.
SELFA provides a nurturing and supportive environment, with activities targeted at different ages and needs. We work closely with parents, carers, and other agencies to support each child. We have a well-trained and experienced team who are keen to engage with new learning and ideas to provide the best support to families.
Funding from the Pixel Fund will help us to build links and strengthen relationships with local schools who might be unsure about offering mental health support to their pupils, so we can ensure we reach children across our local communities.
