Dorset Mind

Dorset Mind Your Head (DMYH) works with children and young people to raise awareness about how to be mentally healthy, to educate young people about symptoms of mental ill health and to prevent long-term mental health issues and support recovery from episodes of poor mental health.

The Pixel Fund Grant will enable DMYH to support vulnerable children with more complex mental health needs through their one-to-one Counselling and Wellbeing Check-in services.

Counselling provides a safe space with a professional counsellor for young people to explore difficult feelings and emotions. DMYH counsellors help young people with mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, bereavement, bullying, anger, relationships, low self-esteem, eating disorders and self-harm.

DMYH’s Wellbeing check-in support service was set up to help young people cope with the physical, mental and emotional impact of the pandemic. Our Wellbeing Mentors explore the challenging situations young people are experiencing and provide them with emotional support and help the young person to find and reach their own goals and solutions.

Quote from a young participant:

“Before I was very lost, sad [and] couldn’t be bothered to carry on. Now I feel a lot more positive and more in control. I am excited for the future.”
