Key Changes promotes positive mental health through music - supporting people with a wide range of mental health challenges, including the most severe conditions. Our award-winning music industry informed programmes were specially developed to engage young adults from Black, Mixed and other ethnic minority backgrounds, who are significantly overrepresented in experiencing mental illness.
Studio Discovery is a five-week, intensive programme of sessions delivered in a professional music studio, where participants work collaboratively with an expert music industry mentor, to create and record original music. This is enhanced by opportunities to perform at our regular Open Mic events, and one-to-one support to develop performance/stagecraft skills; professional portraiture, music videos, artist biographies and social media; and continuing learning/progression routes in the community. This increases participant, self-esteem and positive self-identity; and develops a wide range of transferable skills for sustained successful recovery.
The programme has been piloted across Greater London throughout 2020/21, and has been proven to deliver measurable increases in participant Optimism, Connection and Wellbeing – and support successful progression to new life opportunities, including volunteering and further education/training. With valued support from The Pixel Fund, we will be engaging 20 young adults from across Brixton in the programme throughout 2022.
