All at the Maytree Respite Centre are very grateful for the generous gift from the Pixel Fund. Maytree work with a small staff team and through volunteer befrienders to prevent suicide by offering helpline and, uniquely, residential support to people who are feeling suicidal.
The funding will go towards covering the costs of working with young adults between the ages of eighteen and twenty-six who historically make up a high percentage of our beneficiaries and our volunteers. It will help us to maintain our core programme reaching out to vulnerable young people in suicidal crisis through community groups, through contact with health workers, community crisis teams, social networks and universities and colleges.
It will also enable us to keep up our outreach programme to universities and colleges to recruit volunteers. This brings in a large number of younger people who want to train with us as befrienders and give of their time to support people in suicidal crisis.
