Home-Start Clackmannanshire: because childhood can't wait

Home-Start Clackmannanshire offer practical and emotional support to families across Clackmannanshire who have at least one child under the age of 12. Ensuring they are able to build strong foundations for a happy and healthy future as a families. We provide a package of supports, bespoke to each family, to improve mental health and wellbeing, reduce isolation, and increase resilience.

This includes our dedicated team of Family Support Coordinators, who not only recruit, train, and support our incredible team of home visiting volunteers, but also manage all our referrals, and provide direct support where required. We also have two Group Workers, offering three, weekly parent and child early years groups, encouraging socialization, and building invaluable life skills to prepare parents/carers and children alike for the move to nursery. We also have two parent wellbeing groups.

Over the years, we have seen an increase in the complexity of needs within our families, and to ensure we have a dedicated staff mechanism to support children and young people (along with their families), we recruited two Family Support Workers. Our Family Support Workers engage children and young people in their home, in their community, and within school (or to support children to attend school if they have disengaged).

We are thrilled to have The Pixel Fund supporting us to retain our two Family Support Workers. Last year (23/24) alone, with part time hours, they supported 43 families (61 children and 103 adults). Comments from families about their support from their Family Support Worker has included:

“M is lovely and easy to talk to she helped me understand about the loss of my mum and I dont feel so alone now. Helped me to go to Family Group with the wee ones. I like the Family Group and C will say it like it is. It has helped with confidence and anxieties”.

“Being listened to and not being made full stupid when I was not sure how to do things. Not being told what to do but given suggestions then left to make my own decision”.

“Homestart have helped with the difficulties I’ve faced after school with my children. Homestart have also been a great support emotionally to the whole family and have helped in time of need. Couldn’t be more thankful for everything homestart have done for my whole family”
