We would like to thank The Pixel Fund for the generous grant of £8000 you gave to Cerebral Palsy Plus in June 2023. This has significantly impacted children and young people with Cerebral Palsy, allowing us to develop our services and deliver more activities than ever before. These activities have aligned perfectly with our mission to support our members in fulfilling their potential and creating opportunities for connection, fun, and personal development.
One of the highlights was our Family Fun Day, attended by over 100 people, featuring activities such as a picnic lunch, a bouncy castle, archery, and axe throwing. The feedback highlighted how much families value events where they can make precious memories knowing their needs will be met, while meeting others in similar situations. Additionally, 33 children and their families enjoyed time at Gympanzees, a pop-up accessible play space catering solely to children with disabilities. We also introduced new activities like a Halloween Party and a Spring Party, using a local sensory room and hiring a children’s entertainer.
For teens and young adults, we organized trips to an outdoor cinema, a meal out, a visit to the M-Shed Museum, and a trip to Pineapple Dance Studios. These activities boosted self-esteem and confidence, with 100% of participants reporting a positive experience and that it made them feel happy to participate. Thanks to the support of the Pixel Fund, we increased regular engagement from 18 to 22 young adults.
The grant from the Pixel Fund helped us to ensure the accessibility of our events. All activities were provided free of charge, and we provided transport assistance to those who required it (around 50% of young adults accessed our transport provision). This meant that no one was excluded due to their financial circumstances. We also hired the RevoLOOtion mobile toilet for many of our activities. This is vital for many of our members who use large power wheelchairs and need carer support. The RevoLOOtion comes equipped with a changing table and hoist, and can meet the needs of those with complex conditions, enabling them to feel confident that they can attend our activities confident that their needs will be met. For example, 8-year-old Anna would be unable to participate in our activities without this facility. Her mum Nikita says:
The RovoLOOtion gives me great peace of mind when I’m at an event knowing that I don’t need to worry about changing Anna without adequate facilities for her needs. Having access to a hoist gives her more dignity to be able to have the time and space to hoist her onto a good-sized changing bed.
In conclusion, the grant from The Pixel Fund has greatly improved the mental health and wellbeing of young people with Cerebral Palsy. Your support has allowed us to deliver more activities and engage with more young people in our community. We remain committed to continuing this positive impact. Thank you for supporting our mission and the young Cerebral Palsy community in Bristol.
