Kool Carers South East

It is with heartfelt thanks, that we would like to thank The Pixel Fund, for their very kind and generous grant of £5,000, towards our core costs. This is repeat funding from The Pixel Fund and as charity, we are extremely appreciative that they continue to value and support our work with young carers and their families. The aim of Kool Carers is to support young carers aged 8-18 years old, ensuring that they no longer have to care in the shadows, but instead, they are able to develop positive relationships with other young people with whom they share an identity. Young carers can come from families experiencing:

  • Physical and mental health issues.

  • Learning difficulties.

  • Drug and alcohol abuse.

  • Domestic abuse.

The young carers we support also have their own additional needs, including neurodiversity, isolation, anxiety and depression. 53% of the young carers we support are living with special educational needs or a neurodiverse diagnosis. Not included in these figures are those young carers awaiting a formal assessment and potential diagnosis.

Kool Carers provides support and fun activities for young carers. Each group meets fortnightly and the focus is to reduce isolation, whilst enhancing the emotional and physical wellbeing of these young people. In addition to the tailored programmes facilitated, Kool Carers, also offers tailored workshops, exciting respite activities, Kool Carers choir, intergenerational yoga, fitness programmes, counselling and therapeutic interventions, in addition to advocacy and support for families in crisis.

We can not thank The Pixel Fund enough for believing in and supporting our work.
