Alder Hey Children’s Charity exists to go above and beyond for patients, families and staff at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. We raise vital funds to help the 330,¬000 patients who visit us every year to have the best hospital experience possible.
Our amazing supporters help us to fundraise for a range of activities and projects throughout the hospital. In 2020 we were pleased to be able to launch our 7 in 10 Mental Health Campaign to help children get the mental health support they need as soon as possible, by developing the facilities and services we offer here at Alder Hey to provide world-class care.
Over and above this appeal we provide funding for life-saving medical equipment, such as ICU equipment to be used throughout the Coronavirus pandemic. We fund cutting edge research and innovations that help our clinicians to treat our young patients as efficiently as possible, helping to foster bright futures. We also support magical patient experiences, such as distraction equipment which helps to calm patients’ anxieties whilst having potentially distressing treatments, and our Arts for Health initiative.
Arts for Health is a programme that has been running throughout Alder Hey Children’s Hospital for over 13 years and is entirely charitably funded. It brings arts activities such as crafts, music, literature, dance, and so much more to all of our young patients.
Thanks to the generous support of the Pixel Fund we have been able to support an Arts for Health project called Music as Medicine, which will provide bespoke music sessions for children with serious mental health conditions here at Alder Hey. Run by professional musicians and centred around each individual child, these sessions give patients the opportunity to develop new skills, communicate creatively, and build confidence, which is proven to be supportive in improving mental health. This year has been particularly difficult for our young patients, as the Coronavirus pandemic has impacted many elements of normal life, and so Music as Medicine is more important than ever.
Thank you to the Pixel Fund for their generous contributions, which will help to bring a little bit of magic to the lives of children with mental health conditions here at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
