With a £1,500 grant from The Pixel Fund, Acacia Family Support are able to keep running their group work support sessions for mothers and families across Birmingham who are affected by maternal mental health problems, particularly pre and postnatal depression. Mothers attend weekly sessions across the City that offer cognitive behavioural therapy based tips and techniques on how to cope, reduce anxiety and change patterns of negative thinking. The sessions are highly interactive and many friendships and support networks are developed that continue well beyond the weekly sessions. We find that connecting mothers with a shared experience is a vital part of their journey of recovery. Our group sessions offer a safe space for mothers to share, connect and recover in a non-judgemental, relaxed environment.
